Living with the family is nonagenarian Ekdal, a former lieutenant who was forward imprisoned for a fiscal offence for which Werle, a wholesaler, was in truth responsible. Gina was Werles housekeeper earlier. At the stem of the redact his son, Gregers Werle, has come home to learn a dinner ships company given by his break off. Gregers discovers that Gina Ekdal was his fathers mistress before she espouse Hjalmar, and that his father had brought the two of them unitedly and helped them financially.
